§ IX — The practice

How Day One works.

A private counter for people who are not in a program, not in a meeting, and not done thinking about it. A slip costs one day, never the count.

Open and tap once a day

That is the whole input. The number on the home screen is your dry days, counted by the entries you add yourself — nothing is inferred, and nothing is guessed on your behalf.

Pick a chip if it helps

Clean. Close call. Slip. The chip is optional; it is what makes the history readable later.

A slip costs one day. Not zero.

Mark it and move on. It shows as one marked day on the calendar, your tally of dry days won holds where it is, and it picks back up the next dry day. There is no lecture attached to it.

Quiet by default

No share sheet. No cohort. No daily nudge. The one reminder is off until you switch it on, at an hour you choose.

Why we made it

Most sobriety apps come from a recovery industry that assumes everyone in it is in a program. We made one for the people who are not. The notes go further into that, and the savings calculator puts a number on what a dry month gives back.
